Maintaining Health And Well-Being Crucial For Exam Success: Experts - News18

The benefits of getting enough sleep include the release of stress hormones.

PM Narendra Modi recently talked about the importance of sleep during the board exams in his special programme Pariksha Pe Charcha.

Examinations for several education boards, including the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Uttar Pradesh Board of Secondary Education, are set to commence in February. The CBSE Board Exam is scheduled to start from February 15, while the UP Board Exam will commence from February 22. This year, a staggering 55,08,206 students have registered for the UP Board 10th and 12th examinations.

As students gear up for their exams, it’s crucial not only to revise the syllabus but also to prioritise their sleep and eating habits. Maintaining good health and well-being before appearing for board exams is paramount. Falling ill during this period can impair cognitive skills and put students at a disadvantage during exams.

Prime Minister Modi recently emphasised the importance of sleep during exam preparation in his special program, ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha.’ Sufficient sleep offers numerous benefits, including the reduction of stress hormones. Exam stress is common and individuals experiencing it often struggle to sleep, leading to the release of the stress hormone cortisol, which negatively impacts exam performance.

Sleep deprivation hampers information recall and memorisation, affecting exam outcomes. Therefore, paying attention to one’s sleep cycle is crucial for effective preparation. Lack of sleep can also lead to health issues.

Taking an afternoon nap is advisable, especially after long study sessions, to prevent mental exhaustion and enhance alertness during late-night study sessions. A short nap can rejuvenate students and prevent sleepiness.

Extended periods of studying in a sedentary position can contribute to lethargy and drowsiness. To combat this, students should take breaks to stretch and move around. Walking while studying has been shown to improve focus and prevent drowsiness.

Prioritising sleep and adopting healthy study habits are essential for optimal exam performance. Students should strive to maintain a balanced routine, including adequate rest, nutritious meals and regular physical activity, to ensure their well-being during the exam period.
