Scammers are finding new ways to trick victims and you must remain vigilant.

Online scams are coming in all forms these days and if you have a taste for digital wallets to store money, this story is definitely meant for you to read.

Most people rely on the internet to get a job interview these days and if the opportunity knocks on the door from aboard, you are excited to see how things pan out. However, virtual interviews have one major risk, and those have been exploited by scammers in recent times.

If you are looking out for jobs and suddenly come across a really good opportunity, chances are you will go ahead with it especially if all the communication channels look clean. Well, that’s what one user who shared his plight on X has talked about recently. Interestingly, the scam originated from X itself, where the victim got a DM from one of the promising companies in his field.

But little did he know that the popular brand will actually end up stealing his money under the garb of a job interview and application process. The victim was then requested to connect on Discord, where he was asked questions related to the job profile, and even made to join a server where like minded people operate.

Once things went smoothly, the person was provided with an interview link by the HR for the startup, which he believed would connect him virtually to an in-house communication app like Zoom to take the process further.

The victim downloaded from the link but unfortunately, what he got was malware capable of draining his digital wallet, from which he lost $3,000 (Rs 2,40,000 approx) in quick time. This isn’t the first time we’re hearing about online job scams that have come in different shapes and sizes lately.

Some people use digital wallets to store their money and hackers have advanced enough to break through these wallets and having malware capable of bypassing the security is what really caused the issue for the person given here.

Understandably, he realises the need to be careful with online activities and always verify when you get these job offers that might show up from nowhere and look to entice with you an interview and further talks regarding money to join the company, which is actually just the fraudster in disguise.
