Apple finally took wraps off its latest iPhone 15 series at its Wanderlust event in California. The company has launched the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max at the event. With the launch of the latest iPhone 15 series, Apple has finally ditched the Lightning port for USB Type C.
All the iPhone 15 models now sport a USB Type C port instead of a Lightning port. With the inclusion of USB Type C port, the company has also introduced reverse charging capability to the smartphones. Now, the iPhone 15 series users will be able to charge their AirPods and Apple Watch directly from their smartphone.
In order to use the reverse charging functionality users require a suitable cable, such as a USB-C to USB-C cable for the new AirPods Pro 2 USB-C Charging Case or a USB-C Apple Watch charging puck. Along with reverse charging capability, the inclusion of USB Type C will offer additional conveniences, such as the option to utilise a single charging cable for Macs, iPads, iPhones, and various other USB-C peripherals. On the other hand, the USB Type C ports present on the Pro models offer speedier USB 3 transfer rates of up to 10Gb/s, as long as you employ the appropriate cable
iPhone 15’s USB-C Port still remains limited to Lightning Speeds
The all-new iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus now sport USB-C ports, but data transfer through a cable remains limited to USB 2.0 speeds, maxing out at 480 Mbps, which matches the Lightning port on previous iPhone models. Apple has officially confirmed this specification in the tech specs listed on its website. In contrast, the higher-end iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max also feature USB-C ports, but these devices support USB 3 data transfer speeds of up to 10 Gbps via a cable. Apple has noted that the adapter includes a braided cable for enhanced durability and is compatible with USB-C iPads.
