Google has been rolling out new capabilties for its Messages app for some time now and if the latest reports are to be believed, then the company may be looking to bring this important feature to the messaging app. According to a report, Google Messages may son let users edit texts after they have been sent.
According to code spotted by TheSpAndroid, references to the feature have appeared in a beta version of the app.Google is a bit late to the party in bringing it, which seems to be one of most in-demand features as competitors have already incorporated this capability in their offerings.
In fact, X, formerly Twitter, is offering the ability to edit a text after it is posted for a fee.
Edit text in iMessage, WhatsApp
This update, if and when rolled out, will follow other messaging platforms like Apple’s iMessage and WhatsApp that already allow users to make changes to text they have sent.
While Apple added the option for iMessage users to edit sent messages with iOS 16 last year, WhatsApp released a similar feature earlier in 2023. In both cases, users have a limited amount of time to edit sent messages
For iMessage, users have a window of two minutes to make changes to their message and WhatsApp gives 15 minutes to edit a text after it is sent. Both of these services also allow users to delete a text.
Photomoji on Google Message
The development comes soon after Google rolled out Photomoji to the Messages app. This features allows users to create and send personalised emoji reactions based on the users’ pictures. Currently available to beta testers, it will be rolled out to all users in the coming weeks.
The feature was announced last week and company CEO Sundar Pichai said that he will be using a photo of one of his dogs to send as Photomoji.

Users can select a photo, choose the object they would like to turn into a Photomoji and hit send. All creations will be saved in a special tab for reuse.
