Hina Khan became a household name for her role as Akshara in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. The actress even became one of the highest paid actresses on Indian television with the success of the show. Her romance with Naitik, played by Karan Mehra captured hearts of the viewers. But, after eight successful years, Hina shocked fans by quitting the daily soap in 2016. Speculations about her fallout with producer Rajan Shahi surfaced online. Now, Shahi broke silence and revealed that Hina’s exit was planned due to her alleged tantrums on set. While appreciating her dedication for the show, Shahi disclosed that issues started escalating in the final months and he claimed that the actress interfered with the script. The producer even shared that she once declined to perform a scene that glorified Shivangi Joshi’s character.

Speaking with Telly Talk India, Shahi said, “The shooting was ongoing and Hina didn’t want to say some lines that were in support of Shivangi. So, she said, ‘I won’t say these lines.’ There was a certain level of script interference, that I will not say, which are appreciating Shivangi’s character. I said, ‘I have also made up my mind.’ It was a day when I had seen this incident ten times before, so I said, ‘Now, Hina, you will have to say this line because, they are the correct line and it has the correct meaning and this is needed for my story.’ She said, ‘I will not say it,’ I said, ‘Then don’t shoot, leave the set.’ So she went into the makeup room that day, I said, ‘These lines will remain, today I won’t cut those lines.’ I was a little stubborn that day.”

Rajan Shahi added “She sat down the whole day, I said, ‘You leave the set if you don’t want,’ she said, ‘I will not leave.’ So, she remained in the makeup room from 9 AM to 9 PM. When she left at 9 PM, Vivek Jain messaged her saying, ‘Though there was another month remaining for our contract, your services are terminated, please do not come on the set.’ So that was a final kind of a thing and don’t know what transpired that next day she said, ‘I will come on the shoot, I will do those scenes.’ So next day she came, shot that same scenes, as it was written, but even I felt upset during the pack up.”

He further explained that despite filming scenes with Shivangi Joshi, he sent a message to Hina Khan saying that they were no longer interested in continuing to work with her due to the ongoing issues. Shahi stated that he immediately instructed his team to scrap the scenes shot with Hina and Shivangi. However, he waited for three days before informing the channel about the decision to terminate Hina’s contract. The producer mentioned that following Hina’s departure, the team transformed their approach, due to which they saw increase in the show’s TRP.
