X gets another major change in form of video and audio calling.

X gets another major change in form of video and audio calling.

X (formerly Twitter) now supports video and audio calls. Here’s a brief guide on disabling the feature, setting who can call, and making calls.

Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) has finally added support for video and audio calling after the feature had been rumoured to be coming to the app for months. The feature is currently only available for X Premium (Twitter Blue) users and only on iOS at the moment. However, according to X, the support should soon come to Android as well.

“We’re releasing a new way of communicating on X, Audio and Video Calling. Audio and Video calling is now available on iOS and will soon be available on Android,” X said in a support page.

Notably, if you are a free user, you can still receive calls, and users are able to choose who can call them from the Direct Messaging settings. X notes that by default, users can receive calls from the accounts they follow or have in their address book. Additionally, there is another prerequisite: to call a user, you must have sent them a DM, and they must have sent you a DM “at least once before.”

As mentioned earlier, you can control who can call you, and this feature may be off-putting for many users. Therefore, here, let’s see how to  disable the video and audio calling feature on X.

To control who can call you, or to disable calling on X entirely follow these steps:

  1. Open X, and head to the DM section. Here, in the top right corner, you will see the settings icon. Tap on it and open it.
  2. Next, you will see an option to disable the feature entirely, you may do so if you want.
  3. But, if you just want to limit who can call, you can select from: ‘People in your address book,’ ‘People you follow,’ and ‘Verified users.’

To make a call on X:

  1. Open your direct messages.
  2. Tap on an existing DM conversation or start a new conversation.
  3. Tap on the phone icon.
  4. Tap on phone icon, and then on ‘Audio call’ to start an audio call, or tap ‘Video call’ to start a video call.

The person you call will receive a notification that you’re calling them. If they don’t pick up, they’ll get a notification that they missed a call.

With the addition of video and audio calling, Elon Musk’s X moves one step closer to its goal of becoming a one-stop shop for all things communication—whether it’s calling, writing long-form content, posting lengthy videos, or acting as a job portal (not released) with dedicated job listings on company profiles.
