WhatsApp has announced that it is bringing Instagram-like Channels feature in India. It is a one-way broadcast tool that enables organisations, creators and celebrities to deliver updates to people right within WhatsApp.
“Today we’re starting to roll out WhatsApp Channels globally and adding thousands of new channels that people can follow in WhatsApp. You can find Channels in the new ‘Updates’ tab,” Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced in his Instagram Channel.
The company will bring Channels in a new tab called Updates where users can find Status and channels that they chose to follow. This particular tab is separate from the chats with family, friends and communities.
Zuckerberg also launched his WhatsApp Channel, and the company has collaborated with The Indian Cricket team, Katrina Kaif, Diljit Dosanjh, Akshay Kumar, Vijay Deverakonda, Neha Kakkar and others who will launch their WhatsApp Channels.
Furthermore, the company is also launching its own Channel where it will provide product updates on what WhatsApp is building.

WhatsApp said that the phone number and profile photo of the Channel admin will not be shown to followers. Likewise, a Channel that users are following won’t reveal their phone number to the admin or other followers.
“If you’re new to Channels, our goal is to build the most private broadcast service available. Channels are separate from your chats, and who you choose to follow is not visible to other followers. We also protect the personal information of both admins and followers,” the company added.

WhatsApp Channels feature is being rolled out globally over the next few weeks. It also announced that over the coming months, anyone will be able to create a channel.
Other WhatsApp Channels features
The Meta-owned instant messaging app company also announced that along with Channels, the company is also introducing four updates. These are:
Enhanced Directory: Users can now find Channels to follow that are automatically filtered based on their country. Along with this, users can also view channels that are new, most active, and popular based on the number of followers.
Reactions: Users can react using emojis to give feedback and see a count of total reactions but how they reacted will not be shown to followers. On Instagram, you can see which user reacted with what emoji.
Editing: Soon, admins will be able to make changes to their Updates for up to 30 days.
Forwarding: Whenever someone forwards an Update to chats or groups, it will include a link back to the Channel so people can find out more.
