‘We Need to Look at Facts’: Jim Ratcliffe On Possible Mason Greenwood Return To Manchester United – News18

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has addressed Mason Greenwood’s situation saying that the player could still have a future at Manchester United. Famed football journalist Fabrizio Romano recently sent out a post on X, quoting the British Billionaire’s words on Greenwood.

“It’s a new decision to make for us. He’s Man United player,” Ratcliffe said. He further added, “We need to look at facts, judge fairly and take into consideration what the values of the clubs are…Then we come out of that with a decision on Greenwood.”

These words from Ratcliffe have surprised several football fans as only last month it was reported that United was looking to cash in Greenwood after some interest from big clubs in Spain.

In January, The Sun claimed that Mason Greenwood’s stint in La Liga with Getafe had attracted the interest of Spanish football giants like FC Barcelona. The British media outlet reported on the situation, claiming that the Blaugranas had been closely ‘monitoring’ the forward all season and were eager to sign him. Speaking about those transfer developments, one of the sources close to the portal said, “Barcelona want to sign Greenwood, and he wants to move there. The next step is for the clubs to come to an agreement…Manchester United want to sell the player and the manager has accepted Greenwood won’t be returning. The view is that it is best for all parties to have a clean break.”

Mason Greenwood was suspended by Manchester United in 2022 after the young football talent was charged with multiple crimes, including rape and assault. All the charges were dropped a year later when some key witnesses decided to withdraw from the case. Later, the club conducted an internal investigation to evaluate what to do with their player. It was decided that it would be best for both the club and Greenwood if he switched countries and pursued his career outside of England. This led to the English international signing for Getafe on a loan deal on deadline day.

While Mason Greenwood still might not have a guaranteed ticket back to England, he has found some comfort in playing in Spain. He has put on some impactful performances in a Getafe shirt this season. Greenwood has played a total of 24 games while scoring seven times in La Liga and the Copa Del Rey. The young forward has also provided a total of five assists.

Speaking of Mason Greenwood’s return to England, nothing concrete has been officially announced yet. A decision will likely be made towards the end of this season, in the summer transfer window.
