Apple has rolled out watchOS 10.1, the first major update to its smartwatch operating system since watchOS 10 launched in September. The update includes a number of new features, security fixes, and bug fixes.
watchOS 10.1: New features
One of the most notable new features in watchOS 10.1 is the ability to perform the primary action in notifications and most apps with a double tap gesture.This is available onApple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2. For example, you can double tap to answer a call, play and pause music, or stop a timer. The double tap gesture is helpful in common situations when the user’s other hand is occupied, such as when walking the dog, cooking, or holding a cup of coffee.
The Neural Engine processes data from the accelerometer, gyroscope, and optical heart sensor with a new machine learning algorithm. The algorithm detects the unique signature of tiny wrist movements and changes in blood flow when the index finger and thumb perform a double tap.
The double tap gesture works anytime the display is awake, and the feature is available all day long with minimal impact to the 18-hour battery life on Apple Watch Series 9 or the 36-hour battery life on Apple Watch Ultra 2, says Apple.
Another new feature is NameDrop. This allows you to exchange contact information with someone new by simply bringing your Apple Watch near their iPhone with iOS 17 or Apple Watch. NameDrop is available on Apple Watch SE 2, Apple Watch Series 7 and later, and Apple Watch Ultra.

How to update to watchOS 10.1
To update to watchOS 10.1, open the Watch app on your iPhone and go to the General tab. Tap Software Update and follow the instructions.
