The IOA dissolved the wrestling ad-hoc panel citing there was no further requirement for the same after the suspension on WFI was lifted. Phogat and Malik urged the nation’s premier to take strict measure to oust those at the country’s sporting institutions exploiting their power.

A day after the Indian Olympic Association decided to dissolve the ad-hoc committee formed to run wrestling in the nation, following the suspension of the WFI, wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik urged the honourable Prime Minister of the nation to take strict measures against ‘oppressors’ such as WFI chief Sanjay Singh, an ally of former federation president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who is accused of sexual harassment of women wrestlers.

The IOA dissolved the panel, stating that there was no further need for it to continue after the revocation of the suspension on the WFI by United World Wrestling last month.

Phogat and Malik took to social media to urge the nation’s premier to oust those at the country’s sporting institutions exploiting their power.

“The Prime Minister is a spin master, knows how to spin the issue by invoking “women power” to counter the speeches of his rivals. Narendra Modi ji, let us also know the real truth of women power,”  the 29-year-old wrote.

“Brij Bhushan, who exploited women wrestlers, has again taken over wrestling. It is hoped that you will not just use women as shields, but will also do something to oust such oppressors from the sports institutions of the country. @narendramodi,” read Phogat’s post on X, formerly Twitter.

Malik, who decided to hang up her boots in the aftermath of the election of Sanjay Singh to power, also took to the platform to share a scathing

“History is a witness of this country’s earth. For centuries, powerful people have played with the respect of women,” Malik began.

“Today in the 21st century we courageously united and raised our voice against injustice and fought with all our lives so that miscreants can be removed from the Indian Wrestling Federation and women wrestlers feel safe,” she continued.

“But the wealthy miscreant is so powerful that he is above the government, the constitution and the judiciary,” the Olympic bronze medallist said.

“After the suspension of the wrestling association by the government, Brijbhushan and Sanjay Singh kept on giving statements that this suspension was just a show, after a few days we would be reinstated and we would have control over the wrestling association forever,” Malik’s post continued.

“This proved to be true and this letter from the Indian Olympic Association officially stamped it and proved that the age-old tradition of insulting women will continue in this new India,” the post concluded.
