The project work will be a part of the Social Science subject from the academic session 2023-2024.

The Uttar Pradesh government is working on the Safe City Project, which aims at ensuring the safety of women, children, the elderly and the disabled. This will be done in coordination with 12 departments, which include Urban Development, Transport, Women and Child Development, Information and Public Relations, Department of Justice and Education. Reportedly, the state government has also issued a deadline to complete the work of the first phase of the project.

Amid this, there are reports that the Uttar Pradesh Board will include 30 marks in project work which will be part of the syllabus of Class 9th and 10th. Reportedly, this project work will be a part of the Social Science subject from the academic session 2023-2024.

If the reports are to be believed, the step to include the Safe City Project in Uttar Pradesh is to make students aware of not just their safety but also the safety of children, women, the elderly and disabled people. Students will have to focus their projects on these aspects as well.

The students will be tasked to collate information and incidents related to traffic safety, women’s safety, and the safety of disabled people as well as write about them.

Students will be required to write down suggestions and get related information and government helplines. The project will also need students to enlist the contributions of women during the freedom struggle.

Apart from this, the project work for classes 9 and 10 will also include making a list of local environmental problems under the Geography subject and will also find ways to tackle or resolve these issues. As per the information available, students will work on environmental problems in the cities and also mention the measures that can be taken. Regarding the same, the UP Board has also issued instructions to the principals of all the recognised secondary schools.

The Safe City Project will be implemented in three phases. The first phase includes Gautam Buddha Nagar along with 17 municipal corporations, while the second phase will include 57 district headquarters municipalities. In the third and final phase, it will include 143 municipalities.
