The cab-service provider Uber is reportedly testing a new feature for its users in India. As reported by TechCrunch, Uber is testing a ‘Store Pickup’ feature in India. With this feature, Uber will collect prepaid items from local stores and will then deliver them to the customers.
Already available in the US, the company is now testing the feature in Delhi-NCR. Customers can utilise the Uber app to schedule pickups and deliveries and monitor them in real-time, akin to how they track rides.
With the Uber Store Pickup feature, the cab service provider will give competition to Instamart, Dunzo and Rapid. However, the Store Pickup feature from Uber comes with some set of limitations. As an example, items designated for pickup at the local store must weigh five kilograms or less and have a value of up to 5,000 Indian rupees. Deliveries cannot include alcohol, medication, drugs, firearms, or any items deemed “dangerous or illegal.”
How to use the Uber Store Pickup feature
In order to use the Store Pickup feature of Uber, users need to enter pickup details before initiating their deliveries. Users need to key in details like local shop name and address and pickup instructions for the driver. Customers also have the option to upload proof of purchase and include an order confirmation number, aiding drivers in successfully completing the pickup.
In addition to its Store Pickup service, Uber provides its standard Connect feature, allowing customers to deliver packages via its app. Nonetheless, the Store Pickup feature is specifically designed for arranging deliveries from local stores.
