The incident happened in South Carolina on Saturday. The three women hailed from Gujarat’s Anand district.

Three women, all hailing from Gujarat’s Anand, lost their lives in a fatal car crash in the US state of South Carolina. Rekhaben Patel, Sangitaben Patel, and Manishaben Patel, the victims, died when their speeding SUV swerved off the road, launched itself at least 20 feet into the air and collided with a bunch of trees on the opposite side of of the highway, after jumping across all lanes in Greenville County.

The SUV was speedily travelling northbound on I-85 when the crash happened, Greenville County Coroner’s Office said while speaking to local media outlets.

The law enforcement officers said that the crash happened on Interstate 85 at Staunton Bridge Road around midday (local time). “When the vehicle jumped all four lanes of traffic, it actually struck trees probably at least 20 feet above the ground,” Chief Deputy Coroner Mike Ellis from the Greenville County Coroner’s Office said.

He further added that after the collision the car rolled down an embankment.

The three women have been living in the US state of Georgia, they further added.

“It’s obvious that they were travelling above the posted speed limit and for some reason left the roadway. Unsure exactly why at this time,” Ellis was quoted as saying by Fox Carolina.

He further said that no other vehicles were involved in the accident. “Very seldom do you see a vehicle that leaves the roadway at such a high rate of speed that it jumps 4-6 lanes of traffic and lands in the trees approximately 20 feet,” he said, elaborating that it rare to to see an SUV lodged in a tree, broken in several places while also explaining the sheer force of the impact.

“Right now, it appears the vehicle is on its wheels, but when the vehicle jumped all four lanes of traffic, it probably struck trees at least 20 feet above the ground,” he told local broadcaster WSPA.

Emergency services, including the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Gantt Fire and Rescue, and multiple Greenville County EMS units were dispatched immediately after the accident to the scene.

They said that the lone survivor of the crash sustained injuries and was hospitalised. The vehicle had a detection system which alerted some family members that the women met with an accident. They then notified local authorities in South Carolina.
