Could Iran launch another missile attack on Pakistan? Intelligence sources say that tensions have spiralled after 11 Iranian security force members were killed in an attack on an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) headquarters in the southeastern border province of Sistan-Balochistan on April 4.

The possibility of a second missile attack in three months at the Iran-Pakistan borders is increasing, they said.

“A Pakistan response is unlikely because most of its deployments are towards India,” said an official.

In clashes with Iranian security forces, 16 members of Jaish al-Adl (Army of Justice) – a Sunni armed group – were killed, reports said.

Jaish al-Adl is an anti-Iranian group that wants independence for Iran’s eastern Sistan and Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan provinces.

Highly placed sources in Pakistan say they have nothing to do with Jaish al-Adl’s attack on Iran, but this Baloch group operates from the borders and civilians too face the consequences of Tehran’s response.

Pakistan and Iran have been trying to capture these militants but without much success and Iran blames Pakistan for it, analysts say.

On the other hand, Baloch separatists target Pakistani security forces at the borders with Afghanistan and Iran, and Pakistan says these attackers have Iranian backing.

Jaish al-Adl has carried out dozens of large and small operations over the years against Iranian military forces, mainly the IRGC.

According to the Iranian security establishment, the group is supported by the United States, Saudi Arabia, and Israel.
