Kolata Knight Riders pulled off a huge triumph over Delhi Capitals at the Eden Gardens on Monday in the 2024 season of the IPL as the hosts managed to restrict the visitors to a total of 153 for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs thanks to Varun Chakravarthy’s three-fer, before going on to chase down the target with 21 deliveries and 7 wickets to spare as Phil Salt starred with a brilliant 68-run innings.

DC skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and opted to bat first but the capital city side never got going as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Kuldeep Yadav’s unbeaten 35-run knock helped Delhi cross the 150-run mark while Pant added 27 runs to his side’s cause.

Following the defeat, Pant opined that his side did not fare well as a batting unit and stated that the batters did not give enough for the bowlers to try and defend.

“It was a good option to bat first. But, as a batting unit we didn’t bat well, 150 was below par with how things were going,” the 26-year-old said.

He added that his team was at least a good thirty, or forty runs short of par, which would have helped them put up a fight in the second innings of the game.

“I think anything around 180-210 would have been a good score, we didn’t give our bowlers enough runs to defend,” he clarified.

However, he expressed that the side looked to take lessons from the loss and try to implement it going forward in the season.

“But we learn from our mistakes, every day is not your day,” Pant said.

Delhi were on a good run of form winning four of their previous five outings to pick up eight points in the campaign, however, couldn’t carry their momentum into the game at the famous Eden.

Pant expressed that they were gelling well as a team and that such games were an inevitable part of the shortest format of the game.

“The way we were going as a team was nice, but these games come along in T20s,” Pant concluded.
