Naughty Dog officially announced The Last of Us Part II Remastered for PlayStation 5. The game is releasing on January 19th, 2024 for PS5.
The biggest new addition to the game is the “No Return” mode, which is a “roguelike survival mode” designed to offer a fresh experience to players by allowing them to prove their mettle in randomised encounters. In this mode, the players will play as new characters and work through various combat and stealth encounters that will pit them against “various stealth and combat encounters that will pit you against a range of enemies, with unique twists that can add new, unexpected factors to any given encounter.”
Apart from the added roguelike mode, players will also be able to enjoy a guitar-free play mode with unlockable instruments.The players also get the opportunity to explore some incomplete levels that were removed from the original game, along with developer commentary for those cut levels and the main campaign’s cutscenes. Additionally, there is a speedrun mode to test their skills.
The game offers native 4K output in fidelity mode, 1440p upscaled to 4K when in performance mode, and if you are using a TV that supports VRR, there is an option to unlock framerate. The remastered edition also has improved loading times, and DualSense features like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. There are new features, too, like Descriptive Audio and Speech Vibrations. The latter uses the DualSense controller to indicate character speech and cadence.
Similar to The Last of Us Part I, The Last of Us Part II Remastered allows players to unlock bonus skins for Ellie, Abby, and their weapons, which they can use to take stunning Photo Mode shots. There are three new Photo Mode — dynamic lighting, Frame Forward, and Gaze Direction, along with new frame and logo options.
The Last of Us Part II Remastered will be available for pre-orders starting from December 5. Both the standard edition and The Last of Us Part II Remastered W.L.F. Edition will go on pre-orders. The W.L.F. Edition includes a SteelBook display case, four enamel pins, a Washington Liberation Front Patch, and a total of 47 Society of Champions trading cards, including eight holographic cards.
Those who already own The Last of Us Part II on PS4 can upgrade to the digital version of Remastered for $10 and transfer their saved game.
