TCS has ended work from home for some teams. The company is asking select teams to work from the office five days in a week beginning October 1. Sources told TOI that five-day work from office has not been implemented across the company yet. TCS has not officially made a statement on the same. WhenTimes of India reached out to TCS on the five day week norm, the company said, “As we are in the silent period, we will not be able to comment on your query.”
“We believe working from the office is good for the associates, customers and TCS. You’re talking only about work output in terms of how they deliver to customers, but how do they get mentored on culture? How do they get mentored on how they deal with customers and colleagues, which is very important for their career development? We are not a bunch of 600 engineers working on work-to-hire or get paid for the time they spend. We are very comfortable with the fact that all our associates come to work.”
In October last year, TCS announced the mandate asking employees to come for three days a week which they must follow. The company said in the memo that disciplinary proceedings will be initiated if they do not adhere to the 3-day roster. Incidentally, TCS is not the only IT major asking employees to return to office. In the past few months, an increasing number of IT companies have been nudging employees to return to office. Companies have cited productivity concerns as well as greater team bonding initiatives that can be facilitated in office as the reason for return to work.
TCS to announce Q2 result on October 11
TCS will kick-off the second quarter earnings season by announcing its results on October 11. “A meeting of the Board of Directors of Tata Consultancy Services is scheduled on October 11 to approve and take on record the audited condensed standalone and consolidated financial results of the company and consider declaration of second interim dividend to the equity shareholders,” the company said in a filing. The TCS Board may also consider paying an interim dividend to investors for the financial year 2023-24. The record date for the second interim dividend is fixed as October 19.
