Success Story: These 3 Delhi Police Constables Cracked UPSC Against All Odds – News18

Thousands of candidates dream of becoming civil servants. Through perseverance, sheer will, and hard work, many candidates reach their dream of becoming a civil servant officer. We cannot, however, forget that the success rate is only 0.5%. One needs to crack the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to fulfil this dream. Three constables from Delhi police have materialised their dreams of cracking UPSC. Today, we’ll take a look at their success story.

IRS Ram Bhajan Kumar joined the Delhi Police in 2009 as a constable. After his father passed away, he had to work as a limestone worker in 2003. His first posting was at Vijay Ghat in CP reserve. He started preparing for UPSC in 2015 and passed the exam in 2022 with 667th rank. This was his 8th attempt. He could not crack the prelims exams in the previous 7 attempts. Due to this rank, he was posted in the IRS cadre.

IPS Vijay Singh Gurjar joined the Delhi Police as a constable in 2010. Later, he was promoted to the sub-inspector post. Then he was posted in the Central Excise department in Trivandrum, Kerala. In 2014, he was posted in the Income Tax department in Delhi. He began his preparation for UPSC while working through these posts but started appearing for the exams. Vijay Singh Gurjar could not crack the preliminary exam from 2013 to 2015 consecutively. Due to his perseverance, Vijay did not stop his preparation. He cracked the prelims exam in 2016, but could not clear the mains exam. He cracked the UPSC prelims exam in 2017 and cleared the mains exams as well. His sheer hard work brought him the rank of 574 in the UPSC CSE 2017 exams. According to him, time management is the most important thing to consider while preparing for the exam.

ACP Firoz Alam joined the Delhi Police as a constable in 2010. After joining the police force, he was inspired by the senior offers of the department. As he wanted to be an officer, he started preparing for the civil service exam. He juggled work with preparation for civil services. Managing time was extremely hard, as per Firoz. Despite multiple attempts and failures, he passed the civil service exam in 2019. It took him 6 attempts to clear the exam. His secured rank was 645 and he joined the IPS as an ACP. It took ten long years to fulfil his dream of walking in the shoes of an officer one day. He proved that with hard work, anything is achievable.
