Scott McTominay has recently spilled the beans on two strict rules that Erik Ten Hag implemented after taking over the managerial role of Manchester United. The Dutch coach has already taken several bold steps since joining the Red Devils in April 2022. Even a player like Cristiano Ronaldo had felt his wrath before leaving the club. The Portuguese superstar was dropped from the first-team training by Ten Hag after he refused to come on as a substitute against Tottenham Hotspur and walked off the pitch before the final whistle.

The incident had a huge impact on Ronaldo ending his second spell with Manchester United in January last year. Jadon Sancho also found himself out of the teamsheet following a social media rant about Ten Hag. Taking a dig at the Manchester United boss, Sancho called himself a “scapegoat.” He also accused Ten Hag of lying about his performance in training sessions.

The club officials later asked Sancho to apologise to the manager. He refused to do so while Ten Hag declined to take him back to the squad. As the matter was never settled, Manchester United have loaned out Sancho to his former club Borussia Dortmund for the rest of the season.

McTominay, however, has backed Ten Hag for installing discipline inside the Manchester United dressing room. Speaking on a recent episode of the High-Performance podcast on YouTube, the Scottish midfielder labelled Ten Hag as a “demanding” manager who’s “got so many high standards that the whole squad have to comply with.”

According to McTominay, Ten Hag wants his players to be punctual about reporting to training sessions. The former Ajax boss is also strict about all footballers wearing the same club attire, be it tracksuits or branded suits.

“I think that’s the way it should be, especially when you play for a club like Man United. We all have to act accordingly and be professional in terms of everything we do. He’s massive on his timings, massive on every looking the same, wearing the same tracksuits and clothes,” McTominay said. He feels these rules will do nothing but “contribute toward a good team.”

Under the guidance of Ten Hag, McTominay has shown significant growth in recent times. He is the leading goalscorer for Manchester United in the Premier League this season, having struck five times in 18 matches.
