Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday spoke on Congress leaders’ remarks against Kangana Ranaut and Hema Malini.

Speaking to News18, Rajnath Singh also said no one should use unparliamentary language against the Prime Minister, since the PM is “not just a person but an institution.”

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday condemned remarks made by opposition leaders against women candidates like Kangana Ranaut and Hema Malini and also said such language is uncalled for in a healthy democracy. In an exclusive interview with News18, Singh also said that no one should use unparliamentary language against the Prime Minister, since the PM is “not just a person but an institution.”

“One should be very cautious while speaking about the Prime Minister, since the Prime Minister is not just a person but an institution. There is no scope for the kind of language that some people have been speaking in a healthy democratic system,” the Defence Minister said.

The Congress has come under fire from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over party leader Randeep Surjewala’s remarks on BJP MP Hema Malini, days after party leader Supriya Srinate was embroiled in a similar controversy over her post against BJP candidate Kangana Ranaut.

In an undated video posted by BJP leader Amit Malviya on X, Surjewala was heard passing lewd remarks against Hema Malini. “Congress MP Randeep Surjewala makes a vile sexist comment, that is demeaning and derogatory, not just for Hema Malini, who is an accomplished individual, but women in general. This is Rahul Gandhi’s Congress. It is misogynistic and abhors women,” Malviya wrote on X.

This came days after Congress replaced Shrinate as candidate from Maharajganj amid outrage over her remarks on Kangana Ranaut, BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate from Mandi. An offensive post was put out from Shrinate’s Instagram account with a derogatory caption and a picture of Ranaut.
