Qualcomm has ventured into the PC space with its new chipset.
Qualcomm, in a bid to get into the competitive PC market, has launched its new 4nm-based Snapdragon X Elite chipset with a 12-core CPU. Here are the details.
Qualcomm, the company behind Snapdragon chipsets for mobile, has expanded its chipset portfolio and unveiled the Snapdragon X Elite platform for PCs. The tech giant claims that this platform harnesses AI inference, is based on the 4 nm process node, and features a 12-core Oryon CPU with low power consumption, allowing for “multiple days” of battery life.
Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite Specifications and Features
With this new platform, Qualcomm has integrated its AI engine and Hexagon NPU to enable a variety of capabilities. Additionally, the chipset enables the execution of generative AI LLM models with over 13 billion parameters—all on-device.
Regarding core specifications, the Snapdragon X Elite gets 12 cores with clock speeds up to 3.8 GHz, along with single and dual-core boost clocks up to 4.3 GHz. It includes an Adreno GPU that supports 4.6 teraflops of power.
In addition, the new platform also gets Qualcomm’s Hexagon NPU that allows for 45 tera operations per second.
The chipset supports 4K displays with up to a 120Hz refresh rate and allows for LPDDR5X memory with a bandwidth of 136 GB/s and a maximum memory capacity of 64GB. On the connectivity front, the chipset features the Snapdragon X65 5G Modem-RF System, supporting 5G NR, HSPA, sub-6 GHz, Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS), LTE, WCDMA, CBRS, and mmWave, and supports Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E, Wi-Fi 7.
Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite Availability
Qualcomm says that PCs powered by these new Snapdragon X Elite chipsets will be available around mid-2014. There is growing speculation online that these PCs could potentially compete with Apple Macs powered by Apple’s in-house M-series silicon. However, the real-world performance of this platform remains to be seen.
