PSG Leads Race To Sign Newcastle United’s Fan-favourite Bruno Guimaraes, According to Report – News18

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) reportedly lead the race to sign Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. The Brazilian footballer is understood to have come under the radar of several Premier League clubs.

According to a report by AS, Chelsea and Liverpool are quite interested in securing the signing of Guimaraes during this January transfer window. PSG are confident to complete the potential deal of the 26-year-old, who has a release clause of around £100m in his current contract with Newcastle United, The Mirror reported.

However, the money might not be an issue for PSG who need to wait till the end of the season to make any move due to the Financial Fair Play. The outlet further claimed that the PSG hierarchy had already completed the initial talks with Guimaraes and his representative, who recently visited Paris.

Newcastle United have been going through enough turbulence in recent times. They have already been knocked out of the Champions League where the Magpies were pooled in the group of death featuring Borussia Dortmund, PSG and AC Milan. Their performance in the Premier League took a downturn at the end of last year. On the back of four consecutive defeats, Newcastle United currently find themselves in the tenth position in the Premier League standings.

Moreover, Newcastle United have decided to offload several first-team stars this summer in a bid to cover the debt. According to AS, Guimaraes is one of those players, who will be put on sale to balance the account. The Brazilian, who joined Newcastle United from French side Olympique Lyon in January 2022, has extended his contract with the English side at the beginning of this season. As per the new deal, Guimaraes is slated to stay at St. James’ Park till 2028 and his future club will need to shell out a release clause of just over 115 million euros to secure his transfer.

According to the Transfermarkt, Guimaraes is the most valuable player in Newcastle United at present with a price tag of 85 million euros. Having featured in 88 matches for Newcastle United, Guimaraes has so far scored 11 goals for the English club.
