OpenAI‘s GPT Store, a platform where users can sell and share their customised AI agents based on OpenAI’s large language models, is set to launch next week. The launch was delayed earlier, but now the platform is almost ready to open its doors.
In an email sent to GPT Builders, OpenAI reminded them to ensure that their GPT creations meet brand guidelines and asked them to make their GPTs public. The email reads as follows.
“Dear GPT Builder,
We want to let you know that we will launch the GPT Store next week. If you’re interested in sharing your GPT in the store, you’ll need to:

  • Review our updated usage policies and GPT brand guidelines to ensure that your GPT is compliant
  • Verify your Builder Profile (settings > builder profile > enable your name or a verified website)
  • Publish your GPT as ‘Public’ (GPT’s with ‘Anyone with a link’ selected will not be shown in the store)

Thank you for investing time to build a GPT.
ChatGPT Team”
Unveiled at OpenAI’s developer conference, DevDay 2023, these GPTs allow anyone to create their own ChatGPT chatbots without needing coding skills. One can simply create a GPT by chatting with ChatGPT and describing what they want that GPT to do.
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, explains that you can program a GPT using language just by talking to it. This makes them highly accessible and gives agency to everyone. Onstage, he demonstrated this by describing to ChatGPT under a “New GPT Draft” that he wanted to create a bot that advises founders on how to improve their startup. He then uploaded a lecture he had given on the subject, instructed ChatGPT to be concise and constructive, and deemed it ready to go.
While the GPTs have been available to Plus users, the upcoming store would let anyone, whether paid user or not, sell or buy the custom GPTs. It is still unclear if the GPT Store will introduce a revenue-sharing program when it launches. During DevDay, Altman mentioned that revenue sharing is a crucial aspect for them, and they plan to “pay people who build the most useful and the most used GPTs a portion of our [GPT store] revenue.”
