When asked about his comments on the controversy, Bidhuri said, “No comments”. He also added that the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla was “looking into the matter”

BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri, who is under fire for his alleged communal remarks against BSP lawmaker Danish Ali, on Sunday refused to comment on the controversy and said Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is looking into the matter.

The alleged remarks were made by the BJP MP on the floor of the Lok Sabha during a discussion on Chandrayaan 3, the country’s successful lunar landing mission on September 21, the last day of the special session of Parliament.

When asked about his comments on the controversy, Bidhuri said, “No comment.  Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is looking into the matter.”.

The BJP on Friday issued a show cause notice to Bidhuri for his use of objectionable words against Ali in Lok Sabha.

BSP MP Danish Ali wrote to Speaker Birla regarding the issue and several Opposition members also called for Bidhuri’s dismissal from the Lower House as well as the BJP.

The BJP leader’s remark came during the discussion on the success of Chandrayaan-3 in the Lower House of Parliament. “Yeh ugrawaaadi (militant), Yeh aatankwaadi hai, ugrawaadi hai, Yeh aantankwaadi (terrorist) hai,” Bidhuri can be heard saying during proceedings.

Oppn Demands Bidhuri’s Suspension from LS

Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury demanded suspension of the BJP MP from Lok Sabha and said the matter should be sent to privilege committee.

Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Sunday accused the BJP of trying to distract people by triggering controversies through its MPs Ramesh Bidhuri and Nishikant Dubey.

While speaking at a conclave in the national capital, the Congress leader said that the BJP wins elections by “distracting” and not allowing us to construct our narrative.

Speaking to ANI, BJP leader and MP Ravi Kishan said that no member should be allowed to get away with such comments in a “temple of democracy”.

“His remarks were unpardonable. I have many Muslim friends, some of whom are associated with show business. We have appeared in films together over the years. What Ramesh Bidhuri said about Danish Ali in Parliament was not at all in good taste,” he added.

Danish Ali Demands Probe into Dubey’s Allegations

Meanwhile, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Saturday said that the Lok Sabha Speaker should also probe the “indecent” conduct and remarks of Danish Ali.

Taking to ‘X’ formerly known as Twitter, Dubey said, “But the Lok Sabha Speaker should also probe the indecent remarks and conduct of Danish Ali. Under Lok Sabha rules, obstructing another MP during the time allotted to him, speaking while sitting and giving a running commentary also call for punishment”.

He, however, also condemned Bidhuri’s comments, saying no decent society can justify them and they cannot be condemned enough.

Reacting to Dubey’s statement, the BSP MP said “BJP MP Nishikant Dubey’s letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker is to create a narrative pertaining to my ‘lynching’ outside the House as my ‘verbal lynching’ already took place”.

Ali demanded an investigation into Dubey’s allegations.

Past Controversies Of Ramesh Bidhuri

This is not the first instance of the BJP MP facing backlash. He has had a history of controversial remarks.

Last year, when a parent went to seek help from him in a matter related to school, Bidhuri allegedly replied, “Why do you give birth to a child in the first place?” This sparked off a huge furore which eventually died down.

He also sparked off another controversy when he made a similar communal statement. He said, “Wherever Muslims are in the minority, we speak of human rights. But wherever they are in the majority, violence breaks out”.
