Majority of the respondents to a News18 Mega Opinion Poll ahead of Lok Sabha elections said they were satisfied with the performance of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre in the last five years. Overall, 43% respondents said they are ‘very satisfied’ with the Modi government. The response was overwhelmingly in favour of the incumbent government in North Indian states.

In Bihar, majority respondents said they were ‘somewhat to very satisfied’ with the central government’s performance while ‘neither satisfied nor dissatisfied’ was a distant second pick. As per the survey, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance may pick up 38 of the 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar.

In Madhya Pradesh, too, maximum respondents said they were satisfied by the Modi government’s performance. ‘Somewhat dissatisfied’ and ‘very dissatisfied’ options didn’t see many takers in the state. The NDA may pick up 28 of the 29 seats in the state.

Respondents in Haryana were emphatic in their support for the Prime Minister, saying they were ‘very satisfied’ with his government’s performance at the Centre. In neighbouring Punjab, too, maximum respondents said they were ‘somewhat to very satisfied’ with the central government’s showing in the last five years. The NDA could win 10 and three states in Haryana and Punjab, respectively.

Respondents in the hill state of Himachal Pradesh overwhelmingly gave a thumbs up to the Modi government’s performance as did those surveyed in the national capital Delhi. As per the opinion poll, the BJP may win four and seven seats in HP and Delhi, respectively.

Uttar Pradesh, which sends the most MPs to the Lok Sabha, too gave its seal of approval to the central government with respondents saying they are very satisfied with the Modi government. The BJP is expected to win more than 75 of the 80 seats in the state.

The News18 Mega Opinion Poll provides valuable insights into the political landscape of India, offering a detailed analysis of voter sentiment and preferences ahead of the upcoming general elections. The poll findings offer an insight into the vote and seat share for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections with individual projections for all major states and for regions within states.

The study from February 12 to March 1 covered 21 major states of India that account for 95% of all Lok Sabha constituencies, making it one of the largest surveys in the country. It provides valuable insights into the political landscape of India, offering a detailed analysis of voter sentiment and preferences ahead of the upcoming general elections.

Fieldwork for the survey was carried out by trained investigators from 10 different fieldwork agencies, with strict quality control measures in place. Before going into the field, the teams underwent detailed briefing sessions to ensure adherence to the sampling plan and questionnaire. Senior field managers and executives conducted on-the-spot quality checks, and each interview was geo-tagged to verify its authenticity.
