At least 48% Democrats want another contender instead of Biden, out of the 48%, 20% want Michelle Obama to fight against Donald Trump.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama is the leading choice to replace Joe Biden for the Democratic party’s 2024 ticket. According to the Rasmussen Reports polls at least half of Democrats want someone other than Biden to fight the elections in November.

At least 48% of the voters said they would approve if the Democrats found another candidate to replace Joe Biden before the election in November. 38% of the respondents said they would disapprove of such a move.

However, only 33% of Democrats believe that such a ballot shakeup would happen. The pollster found very little consensus among voters as to who should replace Biden on the ballot, in case he does not seek reelection.

Michelle Obama led the group of Biden substitutes as she received 20% support among a list of options that also included Vice President Kamala Harris, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, “none of the above” and “not sure.”

Most Democrats, however, opted for “none of the above”. The option was selected by 27% of respondents. Kamala Harris won 15% of the votes. 12% favoured seeing a rematch between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. California governor Gavin Newsom, who was accused of running a “shadow campaign” for the presidency in case Biden steps aside citing health reasons, received the backing of 11% of respondents. Whitmer, who is 52 and the youngest of the group, received the backing of 9% of the respondents.

Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz last year argued that Michelle Obama could “parachuted in” at the Democratic National Convention which will be held in Chicago this year and then named the party’s nominee instead of Biden. Chicago is the hometown of Michelle Obama. She, however, has repeatedly said she wants to remain away from politics.

Biden is trailing his predecessor and former president Donald Trump in many polls across key battleground states and he is yet to give any indication regarding stepping aside and allowing another Democrat to run in his place.
