Google has released the first developer preview of Android 15. This initial beta build is meant for developers and enthusiasts to test out new features and APIs before the public beta versions arrive.
While we don’t recommend installing developer previews on your daily driver, you can give it a try if you have a spare Pixel phone. Here are the steps to install Android 15 DP1 on compatible Pixel devices:

Things to keep in mind

  • A supported Pixel device (Pixel 6 series, Pixel 7 series, Pixel 8 series, Pixel Fold or Pixel Tablet)
  • Unlock bootloader (will wipe device data)
  • Latest Android SDK Platform-Tools installed on computer
  • Android 15 Developer Preview 1 OTA image

Now follow the steps below to install Android 15 Developer Preview on your Pixel phone.

A step-by-step guide to installing Android 15 Developer Preview on Pixel phones

1. Download Android 15 DP1 OTA image

Go to the Android developer website and find the OTA file for your Pixel device under Full OTA Images. Make sure you download the correct build.

2. Unlock bootloader

On your Pixel device, enable USB debugging under Developer options. Connect your phone to the computer and run this command: fastboot flashing unlock
This will unlock the bootloader but also performs a factory reset, wiping all data. Skip this step if the bootloader is already unlocked.

3. Boot into recovery mode

With the device powered off, hold Power + Volume Down until bootloader mode appears. Using the volume keys, select Recovery mode then hit Power to confirm. Alternatively, you can use: adb reboot recovery

4. Apply update from ADB

In recovery mode, select Apply update from ADB by using volume keys and power button.

5. Sideload OTA update

On your computer, sideload the OTA file with this command: adb sideload android-15-dp1.zip
Replace the filename as necessary. The process will take a few minutes.

6. Reboot

Once finished, select Reboot system now from the recovery menu to boot into Android 15 DP1.
And that’s it! The developer preview build will install over your current OS. Keep in mind stability and performance will be less than ideal at this stage. We recommend using a secondary device rather than your daily driver.
