Tech giants like Meta, Amazon, and Microsoft have also laid off many employees.

Earlier, Alphabet had cut about 12,000 jobs in recruiting and engineering teams in January.

Alphabet Inc. is an American multinational technology company that is headquartered in California, USA. It was created after Google was restructured in 2015 and went on to become the parent company of Google and several other Google subsidiaries. There has been news that the Google parent company has once again resorted to laying off its employees from its global recruiting team as the tech giant continues to go for slow hiring. Many other tech companies started their layoffs at the beginning of 2023 and are continuing with their process of laying off employees. Along with Alphabet, many big tech companies, including Meta and Amazon, have already laid off many employees.

According to reports from the news agency Reuters, Alphabet has decided to lay off hundreds of employees. This, however, is not part of wide-scale layoffs, and many employees will be retained for important roles. They will also be assisting their employees in searching for roles within the company and elsewhere. Earlier, Alphabet had cut about 12,000 jobs in recruiting and engineering teams in January. The layoff of employees was done across the world, which is about 6 per cent of the total workforce of the company.

Alphabet is among the biggest tech companies in the world, along with the likes of Meta, Microsoft, Amazon, etc. All these companies had resorted to active layoffs as the economy of the country weakened, and they wanted to end the pandemic-led spree of hiring. Companies all over the world, including America, are firing employees. Along with these big companies, startups have also started to show doors to their employees.

According to reports, Amazon has also laid off around 18,000 jobs all over the world. With them, Microsoft had also announced the cuts in around 10,000 jobs all around the globe.

As per reports by the employment firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas, layoffs in the US rose more than threefold in August as compared to July and quadrupled in comparison to last year. Due to economic uncertainties, tech companies around the world are cutting jobs to rationalise their operations, cut costs, and increase efficiency.

According to economists, the new claims of unemployment benefits have risen by 8 per cent in the week ending on September 9.
