Google is often seen making slight changes to the Play Store’s user interface to amp-up the user experience and the latest change comes in the form of a permanent search bar in the Android’s official app store.
AndroidPolice has reported (spotted by AssembleDebug) that the company is testing a new permanent search bar on the homepage of the Play Store to make it easier for users to run a search and find their designed app, games, books, etc.
According to the report, Google Play Store app comes with an experimental flag – SearchHome__enable_search_home – feature that permanently places the search bar at the top which indicates that the company is testing this with a select few users.
If you remember, the current setup of Play Store hides the search bar when users scroll down on the homepage along with the main settings menu and notification area.
Once the flag is enabled, the search bar along with all the other things mentioned above basically the entire action bar at the top gets pinned at the place and stays at the top of the other content on the Play Store’s homepage, irrespective of the tab that’s been browsed by the users.
Right now, the flag is only accessible to users who are running the rooted Android smartphone and they get the option to enable it and use the pinned action bar in the Play Store. Also, for this users will need to install the GappsMod to enable it.
How it affects user experience on Play Store
As mentioned, the search bar automatically gets hidden as soon as users scroll down in Play Store and to be able to search something or access menu or notification or settings, they need to scroll back up to see the action bar and then tap on one of the options to access it.
With the experimental flag enabled or with the pinned action bar, it will become much easier for users to access these options, including the search bar. Which will end up making it simpler and also faster for users to run a search, access notifications and more.
