Google is using LLMs to train Search and help it give you solutions for complex Maths and physics problems.

What if we tell you that Google can now help you with complex Maths problems? Search is now able to offer solutions for subjects like trigonometry, calculus and geometry among others. That’s right, your regular Google Search becoming a Maths tutor to help you find solutions.

Google says that Search can offer step-by-step solutions for these Maths problems and you can get the answer when you type an equation or an integral into the Search bar. But since Google has multiple features, you can also click a photo of a problem via Lens and Search will do the bulk of the work to give you the right answer.

These options are currently limited to Search on the web, but mobile users will soon get the feature as well. Google is heavily relying on Large Language Models (LLMs) to empower Search with faster responses and more importantly, give details that are accurate. It is likely that Search will evolve and get better with giving solutions as it trains on more data fed by users and researchers at the same time.

It is interesting that Google wants to help students through its AI solutions and using Lens to capture a picture of a geometrical angle would probably have helped kids back in the days as well. Phones these days are highly capable and when you have AI-enabled chips powering these capabilities, it is hardly surprising to see Google bring these features not only for the desktop but mobile users as well.
