The Red and Gold Brigade began their Kalinga Super Cup campaign with a narrow 3-2 win over Hyderabad FC. They replicated the performance in the following game where I-League side Sreenidi Deccan suffered a 2-1 loss. In their last group-league match, East Bengal were up against their derby rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant and registered a commanding 3-1 victory. East Bengal overcame Jamshedpur FC in the semi-final to reach the final. Meanwhile, Odisha FC finished at the top of Group D before beating Mumbai City FC 1-0 in the second semi-final to qualify for the summit clash.
