Dr Harisingh Gaur Vishwavidyalaya To Offer Agniveer Soldiers Diploma And Certificate Courses – News18

An academic agreement has been formalised between Dr Harisingh Gaur Vishwavidyalaya in Sagar and the Mahar Regiment of the Indian Army unit based in Sagar. Under this agreement, Agniveer soldiers will have the opportunity to pursue various courses, ensuring that their education continues seamlessly even after joining Agniveer. Reportedly, the university is set to offer 45 different courses tailored for Agniveer soldiers, covering a spectrum of degree programs, diplomas, and certificates. The signing ceremony for this significant collaboration took place at the Suresh Chand Auditorium in Mahar Regiment Sagar, with the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Neelima Gupta, and Brigadier Inderjit Singh Bhalla in attendance.

In addition to academic courses, Agniveer soldiers will have the option to enrol in skill development programs focusing on areas such as food, fashion, and management. Speaking to Local18, Vivek Jaiswal, a media officer of the university, emphasised that this marks the country’s first academic agreement specifically catering to the higher education needs of firefighters. Jaiswal stated that soldiers would not only have access to the existing courses offered by the university but could also express interest in additional courses as they are introduced.

He elaborated on the scheme, explaining, “If the officers undergo any training, they will be awarded a diploma or certificate affiliated with the university. The soldiers will reap the benefits of these credentials in the future.” Furthermore, soldiers will have access to vocational courses and other programs based on their requirements. The educational offerings will be facilitated through the distance learning programs of Dr. Harisingh Gaur University.

Presently, Dr Harisingh Gaur Vishwavidyalaya, Sagar, provides diploma degrees in 14 courses and certificate courses in 5 disciplines. Some of the diploma courses encompass Mushroom Cultivation and Processing, Retail Management, Fashion Technology, Tourism, and Water Purification, among others. Certificate courses include Professional Communication, Composting Techniques, Organic Farming, Wheat Processing, and Management. The number of courses available to Agniveer soldiers is expected to increase based on their preferences. These distance learning programs are designed to enable soldiers to pursue education while serving in the Indian Army, enhancing their prospects for future employment after completing their military service.
