The 1269th Executive Council (EC) meeting of Delhi University, chaired by Vice Chancellor Professor Yogesh Singh on March 8, approved a funding of Rs 1717.45 crore for the university for the financial year 2024-2025. Additionally, the Council decided to offer a 75 per cent fee concession to specially-abled candidates applying for a PhD. Furthermore, the council extended significant relief to students who faced difficulties completing their degrees in 2021-22 and 2022-23 due to the Covid pandemic.
Professor Yogesh Singh, addressing the council meeting, assured that students affected by the pandemic would be allowed to complete their degrees. They will be invited to complete the remaining papers required for their degree. University Registrar Dr Archana Gupta said that Rs 553.95 crore has been allocated for salary expenses in the budget for the upcoming financial year. Apart from this, information was also given about the estimated budget of Rs 154.88 crore for capital assets like buildings, lab equipment, books, magazines and campus development.
A crucial decision was made to introduce a ten-point special moderation for students who have only one paper left to complete their course. This decision, based on recommendations put forth in the Academic Council meeting, aims to alleviate the burden on students facing challenges in meeting the fixed duration for completing their degree programs. This relief is particularly relevant in light of the implementation of the NEP UGCF-2022. It was also decided to endorse a set of guidelines for DU faculty members who wish to study for a PhD at overseas universities. The requirements state that Delhi University’s ranking cannot be lower than the ranking of the selected foreign university. It’s also necessary to provide complete fellowship and stipend declarations.
To support the provision of mental health services, the EC also approved an extension for an MPhil in Clinical Psychology and Psychiatric Social Sciences until the academic year 2025-2026.
