Russian President Vladimir Putin commented on the massive missile and drone attack that destroyed one of Ukraine’s largest power plants and damaged others. Putin called the attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities a response to Ukrainian strikes that targeted Russian oil refineries.The Russian president added that his forces had not launched attacks during the winter on “humanitarian grounds.”Putin made the remarks during a nearly 4-hour-long meeting with his ally, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. Putin said the strikes were part of the process of “demilitarisation” of Ukraine – one of the objectives he cited when he sent Russian troops into Ukraine. Putin also mocked a planned round of Ukraine peace talks in Switzerland, warning that Moscow would not accept any enforced deals ignoring its interests.”
