US President Joe Biden faced criticism from netizens after claiming he had crossed Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge, which was destroyed during Tuesday’s collision, “many, many times” by train and car.

He made these remarks while addressing the collapse of the US bridge after a container ship, with an all-Indian crew, struck it at about 1:30 am on March 26. Biden’s claims of frequent travel over the bridge, coupled with his mention of commuting from Delaware, triggered rebuke among the right-wing handles.

On March 26, owners of the Singapore-flagged container ship “Dali” said that the vessel collided with one of the pillars of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, with two pilots onboard. All crew members were accounted for and there are no reports of any injuries.

Critics pointed out the absence of train tracks on the Francis Scott Key Bridge, questioning the accuracy of Biden’s statement, the New York Post reported. Radio host Alan Sanders joined the chorus of skepticism, highlighting the discrepancy between Biden’s claims and the bridge’s infrastructure.

White House Clarifies

White House spokesperson Robyn Patterson later clarified that Biden was referring to driving over the bridge during his 36-year Senate career, rather than traveling by train. Patterson’s statement aimed to address the confusion surrounding Biden’s comments.

This incident is not the first time Biden has faced scrutiny for inaccuracies in his statements. Earlier, he claimed to have been present at Ground Zero following the September 11 attacks and witnessed a bridge collapse in Pittsburgh, both of which were later corrected.
