Apple has unveiled its highly anticipated MacBook Air refresh, introducing 13-inch and 15-inch models powered by the company’s new M3 chip, promising a significant performance boost and enhanced capabilities for the “world’s most popular Mac.”
Customers can order the new MacBook Air with M3 starting today, with availability beginning Friday, March 8.The 13-inch model starts at Rs 114,900, while the 15-inch variant starts at Rs 134,900.
Apple promises that the M3 MacBook Air delivers up to 60% faster performance compared to its M1 predecessor and 13 times the speed of the fastest Intel-based MacBook Air.
The new MacBook Air now supports up to two external displays when the laptop lid is closed, however, with the lid open, users can still only use one external display alongside the built-in screen, mirroring the previous generation’s limitations.
“MacBook Air is our most popular and loved Mac, with more customers choosing it over any other laptop. And today it gets even better with the M3 chip and new capabilities,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
The M3 chip, built using 3-nanometer technology, promises not only faster performance but also improved battery life, with Apple claiming up to 18 hours of usage on a single charge – a six-hour increase over Intel-based MacBook Air models.
Apple touts the M3 MacBook Air as the “world’s best consumer laptop for AI,” thanks to its faster and more efficient 16-core Neural Engine, which enables advanced machine learning capabilities, from real-time speech-to-text and translation to visual understanding and accessibility features.
Aside from the performance gains, the new MacBook Air retains its signature thin and light design, with a durable aluminium unibody enclosure available in four colours: midnight, starlight, space grey, and silver. The two MacBooks feature a Liquid Retina display with up to 500 nits of brightness and support for 1 billion colours, measuring at 13.6-inches and 15.3-inches, respectively.
Other notable improvements include Wi-Fi 6E support, providing download speeds up to twice as fast as the previous generation, and an AV1 decode engine for more efficient and higher-quality video streaming experiences.
Apple has also focused on environmental sustainability, with the new MacBook Air being the company’s first product to be made with 50% recycled content, including 100% recycled aluminium in the enclosure and 100% recycled rare earth elements in all magnets.
