Android 14 could release soon.

Android 14 could release soon.

Canadian telecom operator Telus has announced that Google is expected to release Android 14 on October 4, which coincides with the launch of the new Pixel 8 series.

Android 14 is expected to make its way to all supporting Pixel devices on October 4, as a carrier listing has revealed. October 4 is also the date when the new Pixel 8 series of devices will be unveiled, and Google could be planning to launch the latest Android version on the same day.

As spotted by 9to5Google, Canadian telecom operator Telus has given an approximate date of October 4 for the release of Android U, which is Android 14 for all compatible Pixel devices.

However, currently, there is no word from Google itself as to when we can expect the latest Android version for the Pixels. “All dates are approximate and subject to change,” Telus notes. It added, “Please note posted dates reflect when the update is targeted for release but can take a few weeks to roll out to all devices.” So, yes, while the October 4 release date should be taken with a grain of salt, the fact that it’s a major event for Google, and considering the company has followed the same strategy in the past, it wouldn’t be out of the blue to launch Android 14 on the same day itself.

Android 14 update will be compatible with the following Google Pixel devices: Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel 5, Pixel 5a, Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, and the Pixel Fold.

The update is expected to bring iterative changes over Android 13, like better privacy and security, which includes blocking the ability to install old apps targeted for Android 5.1 and earlier. Other aesthetic updates include a more customizable lock screen, and even functional upgrades like native braille display mode and a new reading mode for the visually impaired.

Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro To Ship With Android 14 Out of the Box

As expected, the new generation of Pixel 8 devices will ship with Android 14 out of the box. Another major shift for Google this time around could be the rumored inclusion of 7 years of software support, with 4 major OS updates and 3 more years for security patches. But we can’t say for certain until Google confirms this leak at its official event tomorrow.
