Xiaomi announces MIUI successor.

Xiaomi is going to replace its long-running MIUI OS with a new platform called HyperOS. Here’s what we know so far.

Earlier this month, rumors surfaced which suggested that Xiaomi could end up replacing its MIUI Android OS with a new and redesigned operating system. Well, it turns out the speculation was correct, as the company has announced that it is launching a new OS called the Xiaomi HyperOS; and it is set to debut with the Xiaomi 14 series.

Lei Jun, the founder and CEO of Xiaomi, confirmed the development over on X (formerly known as Twitter). “Today marks a historic moment. After years of collective work, our new operating system, Xiaomi HyperOS, is set to make its official debut on Xiaomi 14 Series,” Jun said.

However, it isn’t clear if the reworked OS would be available on Xiaomi smartphones globally, but Lei Jun has also hinted that HyperOS could also end up on internationally available models after a user asked if the new OS was coming to international models too. Jun replied, “stay tuned,” followed by a smiling face with glasses emoji. If this is any indication, we may see Xiaomi revamp all of its smartphone lineup in the future, and as was speculated, MIUI may no longer be a thing.

FoneArena also spotted Lei Jun’s comment on Weibo, and per the post, Xiaomi aims to gradually replace MIUI with the new OS, so while it is a guess, it could take Xiaomi some time before the complete transition is made.

It is also worth noting that we currently have no information if the new Xiaomi HyperOS would be based on Android at all—considering it was rumored that Xiaomi may end up pulling a Huawei and develop a new platform using the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). But, the addition of Lei Jun’s “stay tuned” comment on X certainly makes things interesting. With that said, more should be in the clear as and when the Xiaomi 14 series launches.
