Israel PM Netanyahu said that the IDF is currently clearing out terrorists from areas in southern Israel.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday issued his first public statement on the massive attack by the Hamas terrorist group and said Israel is at war.

“Citizens of Israel, we are at war. And we will win,” Netanyahu said. “The enemy will pay a price like they have never known before,” the Israeli Prime Minister further added.

“This morning, Hamas launched a murderous surprise attack against the State of Israel and its citizens. We have been in this since the early morning hours. I convened the heads of the security establishment and ordered – first of all – to clear out the communities that have been infiltrated by terrorists. This is currently being carried out,” he said.

Netanyahu’s statement comes five hours after the start of the assault by the Gaza-based Palestinian terror group.

At least dozens have been reported dead and nearly 300 people have died as terrorists infiltrated a number of southern towns. Between 2,200 to 5,000 rockets were fired towards Israel from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip in the wee hours of Saturday morning.

The Israeli army said terrorists from Gaza entered Israel by land, sea and air using paragliders on Saturday following the barrage of rocket attacks. “It was a combined ground raid which happened through paragliders, through the sea and through the ground. Right now we’re fighting. We’re fighting in certain locations around the Gaza Strip… our forces are now fighting on the ground. We’re looking at all arenas… we understand this is something big,” Richard Hecht said.

Israel has remained tight-lipped regarding the number of casualties and has refused to discuss reports that multiple Israelis had been captured by Palestinian militants.

Israel’s army carried out at least two air strikes on the Gaza Strip.

Terrorist group Hamas has backed its fighters and encouraged them to keep fighting the Israeli IDF.

“We warned the enemy not to continue his aggression against the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The age of the enemy’s aggression without a response is over. I call on Palestinians everywhere in the West Bank and within the Green Line to launch an attack without restraint. Go to all the streets. I call on Muslims everywhere to launch an attack,” Mohammed Deif, the head of Hamas’ military wing, issued a statement.

Hezbollah, backed by Iran, has also offered support to Hamas and said it is direct contact with the terrorists on the ground.
