Atletico Madrid striker Memphis Depay presented teammate Antoine Griezmann with an NBA-style ring to commemorate the Frenchman becoming the Spanish club’s all-time record goalscorer.
Griezmann is a huge follower of basketball and has linked up with multiple high-profile NBA players in the past.
Griezmann, who has netted a record 175 times for the Madrid club, went past previous record holder Luis Aragones’ record of 173 goals with a strike against cross-town rivals Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup semifinal game between the sides on the 10th of January.
Griezmann has been pivotal to Atletico’s presence in domestic and global relevance in recent times as he has proved his class time and again with his displays of brilliance throughout his time at the Spanish capital city.
The French World Cup winner first joined the Los Colchoneros back in the year 2014 following a successful spell at Real Sociedad. Griezmann went on to establish himself as a fan favourite during his first stint at the Madrid club before a switch to Catalan giants Barcelona in the year 2019.
However, his time at the Catalan club did not come to fruition as he returned to the Madrid club in the year 2021 on loan, before making the switch permanent in the year 2022 after a sub-par stint at the Blaugrana.
Dutchman Depay joined the Rojiblancos in the year 2023, also from Barcelona, and has struck up a camaraderie with the Frenchman.
Atletico Madrid occupy the fourth spot in the La Liga standings this season with 48 points to their name from 24 outings.
The Madrid side have picked up 15 wins while drawing 3 games. The Diego Simeone-led side have tasted defeat six times in the ongoing campaign and are on the heels of third-placed Barcelona, who have 51 points this season.
Real Madrid top the table with 61 points, followed by surprise contenders Girona, who are placed second with 56 points under their belt.
