Mike Tyson was stopped from entering the venue of the ongoing Miami Open 2024 during a match featuring Victoria Azarenka.

Legendary boxer Mike Tyson was recently stopped by security from entering the Miami Open quarterfinal venue. Tyson wasn’t allowed to enter the venue until the match was stopped.

He had turned up for the match between Victoria Azarenka and Yulia Putintseva at the Miami Gardens, Florida.

According to reports, the 57-year-old attempted to get to his seat while the match was going on. As per rules, spectators aren’t allowed to leave their seats or make a movement until there is any stoppage of play.

That is understood to be the reason why the security personnel did not let Tyson return to his seat.

Azarenka won the thrilling first set in the tiebreaker and then saved three set points. But Putintseva made a comeback and won the second set 6-1 forcing the decider.

However, Azarenka clinched the last set 6-3 and qualified for the Miami Open semi-finals.

The head-to-head between Azarenka and Yulia Putintseva is 3-0 after the former’s triumph in Miami.

Azarenka has so far won 14 out of the 19 matches till now in 2024.

During the post-match press conference, Azarenka said she’s very happy with the performance.

“Excited. Very happy with today’s win. Yeah, it’s good to be back in the later stages of the tournament, it’s what I work for, so yeah, definitely very happy to go through,” she told the reporters.

Azarenka began her campaign in this tournament by defeating Peyton Stearns 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 in the second round. She then defeated the seventh-seeded Zheng Qinwen 6-3, 6-4 and qualified for the fourth round. She defeated Katie Boulter 7-5, 6-1 and next defeated Yulia Putintseva in the quarters.

She will now either lock horns with the fourth-seeded Elena Rybakina or the eighth-seeded Maria Sakkari in the semi-finals.

Azarenka is playing in her second semi-final of the year.

She had played in her first semi-final in Brisbane International, held earlier this year but lost to Aryna Sabalenka. The Belarussian had qualified for the Qatar Open quarterfinals but lost to Iga Swiatek.
