Back in November, Australia’s Deakin University set up its first foreign branch campus in India in the Gujarat International Finance Tee-City (GIFT City). With the launch of the Australian institute in India, US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti has said that American universities too will be established in India. There will be “dozens of US campuses: soon in India, joint programmes will also be offered, Garcetti told ANI. He also added that Arizona State University has announced that more than 10 different campuses will be established around India.
“Absolutely, it’s my goal to get as many Americans to India as we are seeing Indians come to America…You will see announcements in the coming years of dozens of US campuses; we will have joint campuses, joint programmes here; one Arizona State University announced that there are going to be more than 10 different campuses around India. To me, this is what the future is about. Indians know more about the US and the US knows more about Indians, taking the world where we can be multiplicative as India times the US, I think the relationship is not just India plus the US,” he told the news daily.

Deakin University had earlier initiated the admission process for its two postgraduate programmes set to commence in July 2024. The university is offering these programmes at an annual tuition fee of AUD 19,000, which is approximately Rs 10.7 lakh.

Talking about the death of Indian students in the USA, Garcetti said the US govt wants to make sure that Indian students have all the information they need about mental healthcare and physical safety before travelling to the USA. While there’s always going to be tragic incidents, the govt wants to reduce it as much as possible, he added.
“We care so deeply for the well-being of every student, especially our students coming to the United States. We want to make sure that they have all the information whether it is mental health care or physical safety and there is one of the resources in all of our college campuses that we want to make sure that Indian students know about before they come to the USA. With over 2,40,000 students, of course, there’s always going to be tragic incidents, but we want to try to get that number as close to zero as we can..,” Garcetti told ANI. (sic)
