Apple has made it a lot easier for users to customise things with iOS 17, which wasn’t possible with the earlier versions of iOS. This also includes the option to select which app Siri will use to send messages.
Apple has already made it possible for developers to integrate Siri commands into their apps and services with the iOS10 update. For instance, users can say things like Book a cab with Uber or manually tell the name of an app to use for sending messages. The idea is to mention the third-party app name in the command.
The process comes with its own set of inconveniences like not remembering the app name or Siri getting the app name wrong. This usually leads to retrying again and again.
Now, users have the option to select the particular app that they want to use for a particular command, at least for sending messages.
What this means is users can now select WhatsApp to send messages while using Siri, here’s how you do it.
Steps to change default messaging app for Siri
The process is pretty straightforward. But one thing to note is that Siri won’t make WhatsApp or other messaging apps a default app and always choose it whenever you ask to send a message. The process is manual, always and at least for now. Here are the steps to follow:

  • Invoke Siri by saying “Hey Siri” or long pressing the power button
  • Tell her to “Send a message to (contact name)
  • Siri will open a message box at the top with that contact name selected and waiting for you to speak up the message you want to send
  • Here, look for the “Message” icon at the left side of the contact name and tap on it
  • A new drop-down will appear with all the apps available to choose from, select WhatsApp or your preferred app
  • Dictate the message and send it.

As mentioned, Siir will send the message with the app you have selected from the drop-down. However, by default, it will choose Messages all the time.
