In an interview with News18, a shopkeeper of laktha sweet seller named Munna said that his shop is hundreds of years old. The sweet made of gram flour and jaggery is a favourite of many and people pack it and take it to their homes and send it abroad as gifts. To make this sweet, one has to undergo various steps. As per Munna, firstly, some rice flour is added to gram flour and mixed with some water. Then it is deep-fried in oil. After that, gud or jaggery syrup is added while frying. It is the gud that adds the sweet flavour to this delicacy.

The fundamental reason to buy this sweet is that it has a longer shelf life. The demand for laktha is quite higher than other sweets. It can be paired with tea or coffee and be offered as snacks as well along with namkeens.

Laktha sweets are available for Rs 100 per kilo. The sweet tastes the best when it is fresh. However, it continues to taste the same because of its longer shelf life making it an easy-to-carry sweet while travelling or for gifting. Munna’s Lakthawala shop, which sells this sweet, is located near Shanichari temple, which can be reached directly from Shaheed Park Chowk from Ballia Railway Station.
