The reason why Erik ten Hag will not be present in the dugout during Manchester United’s game against Everton has finally been explained.

Ten Hag has received a one-match suspension because of his antics in United’s match against Luton Town at Old Trafford last month. The ban is a result of conceding a third yellow card in the ongoing Premier League season.

According to the new rules in the top flight of English football, three yellow cards will result in a touchline ban for managers. The punishment has been upgraded from the previous rule that required four bookings for a one-game suspension.

Erik ten Hag did voice his disappointment over the booking in the press conference after the Luton game.

As per SportBible, he said, “Yes, that’s the way [it is], So I have to accept that. It’s not nice but I’m sure we’ll prepare for Everton and my coaching staff will take over, they are very competent to do the job.”

Ten Hag was visibly upset with the fact that he was going to miss an important game for Manchester United. He later explained the booking saying that all the coach did was make a remark on a wrongly awarded throw by the referee during United’s game against Luton.

“It was so clear and obvious [it was] our ball. It was my remark, therefore, I got booked”, Ten Hag explained. His previous two bookings came in United’s games against Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.

Ten Hag believes that regardless of his disagreement with the decision made by football authorities there comes a point where one has to accept them.

“There is a certain point you have to accept decisions, what I should do as well”, the head coach concluded. This sequence of events will see United’s assistant coach Mitchell van der Gaag take over Ten Hag on the touchline in the upcoming league game.

While the Dutch coach will be absent from the action on the touchline, he surely won’t be missing the game. United have already confirmed that the Ten Hag will be watching the game from the director’s box and will have a communication device on him to speak to his staff.

Despite the yellow card drama in Manchester United’s game against Luton Town, the Red Devils pulled off a narrow 1-0 victory over the visitors.

A rare goal from Victor Lindelof sealed the win for his side. Lindelof’s finish saw him end almost a three-year drought with his last goal coming in December 2020. It was also United’s second successive clean for only the second time this season. This marked four victories in five games for the Trafford-based clubs.
