ST Telemedia GDC India, the co-location data center service provider, is exploring opportunities to enter key tier-2 cities. Along with this, the company is also planning to make some investments to double its capacities every four to five years.
Sumit Mukhija, the Chief Executive Officer of ST Telemedia GDC India, envisions a robust 30% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) for India’s cloud market over the next 5-7 years, propelled primarily by the surge in AI applications. Looking ahead to 2030, projections suggest that India’s data center capacity will soar to an impressive 3000MW, underscoring the expansive and burgeoning market for data center services in the country.
“Since 2016, STT GDC India has achieved significant growth in revenue, profitability, capacity, and maturity. They manage over 300MW of critical IT load across 27 facilities in nine Indian cities, including Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Chennai. Notably, their campuses in Chennai, Pune, Mumbai, and Noida are the largest and each offer over 100MW of IT load capacity”, said Mukhija.
STT GDC India is primarily owned by ST Telemedia Global Data Centres, based in Singapore, with a notable minority share held by Tata Communications. The genesis of this Indian subsidiary dates back to the early 2000s, initially operating as a business line under Tata Communications. By 2014, it gained independence and functioned as a distinct entity. In 2016, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres acquired a controlling interest in the company.
