Some of the key websites of the United States government went down on March 7, just minutes before President Joe Biden delivered his State of the Union address. The outage lasted less than an hour. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed the internet disruption.
The US Department of Homeland Security said it had resolved an issue with its website and related domains that caused them to temporarily go down on Thursday.
A DHS official added there was “no indication of malicious action” in the outage, which occurred during Biden’s State of the Union address to Congress.
Other US government websites that reported outage include:
– Homeland Security (DHS)
– Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
– Customs and Border Protection (CBP)
– Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE)
– Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)
– US Secret Service
No specific reason was given for the outage but Department of Homeland Security officials said that it does not appear to be malicious. “We are currently investigating and working to resolve an outage with http://dhs.gov and component domains. We will restore the sites as soon as possible,” post DHS on X, formerly Twitter.

Week of internet outages
This week has seen the websites of some of the biggest US companies go down. On Tuesday websites of Facebook parent Meta including Instagram, Facebook, Threads were down for almost two hours. On the same day, in fact, several Google websites, including GMail and Google Drive, also went down for almost an hour. On Thursday the website of the Microsoft-owned professional networking social network LinkedIn went down for over an hour.
