Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree reorganising the country’s military structure. Russia said the move reinstates the long-dormant Moscow and Leningrad military districts to meet new challenges. Russia has also incorporated the four occupied Ukrainian regions of Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk and Zaporizhzhia into the Southern Military District. The decision to re-establish the Moscow and Leningrad districts was initially proposed by Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu in Dec. 2022. Putin also promised to increase the mobility and striking potential of Russia’s special operations forces. Russia’s military revamp comes as Sweden cleared its final obstacle to joining NATO after Hungary’s parliament voted to ratify the bid. Watch this video to now more.
