OnePlus Pad came out last year with a powerful hardware and premium package. This year the Pad 2 could take it closer to the flagship models.

OnePlus Pad proved its mettle with a strong debut last year and now the brand seems ready to bring the Pad 2 variant later in 2024. The OnePlus Pad 2 is expected to take the performance levels a notch higher as reports claim that Pad 2 will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, which is the best available hardware out there for Android devices.

The first-gen OnePlus Pad was offered with a MediaTek Dimensity chipset which was no slouch either, but moving to the Snapdragon 8 Gen family will be a first not only for the brand for the tablet segment as a whole.

Android tablets have improved in the last year or so but the software still feels like a work-in-progress which is where we have seen Android operate in the segment for many years now. Its direct challenge is with iPads and Apple continues to give us an ecosystem where the iPad can seamlessly work with a Mac and an iPhone.

You can’t say the same for Android tablets, unless you have one brand in focus. Google launched the Pixel Tablet last year which looks to build on the renaissance of Android tablets, and hopefully brands like OnePlus can benefit from these improvements.

We still don’t know much about the Pad 2, in fact, the name is not officially confirmed, and the features of the new tablet see major upgrades which suggests the Pad 2 could be priced way higher than the Rs 40,000 for the OnePlus Pad.

In the other OnePlus news, the company is facing some issues with retailers in India, forcing the brand to intervene and fix the matter or else face the prospect of a blanket sale ban in the country from May this year.
