The class 10 student who stayed at the school hostel, took the extreme step after his mobile phone was reportedly seized by the school authority

A class 10 student allegedly died by suicide on his school premises in Odisha’s Khurda district after his mobile phone was “seized” by the school authority on Friday, police said. The deceased identified as Publias Karji, is a native of Gajapati district. reported PTI.

The 16-year-old who stayed at the school hostel, was found hanging from a tree on Friday morning, a police officer said. He allegedly took the extreme step after his mobile phone was reportedly seized by the school authority.

“We have recovered the body and informed his family members. Investigation has been started into the unnatural death,” said SDPO (Khurda Sadar) Dilip Das.

In another case, a class 11 student allegedly died by suicide after she was insulted for consuming gutka (tobacco) by her teacher in front of her father. The incident happened in the Mahoba district of Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi. The 17-year-old student, identified as Anjali Sahu, hanged herself hours after her father was called to the school by her teacher, where he was told that his daughter was addicted to gutka.

The school authorities had said that they would not allow the girl to attend classes till she gave up this habit of consuming tobacco, the girl’s father, Amit Sahu, was quoted as saying.

Soon after the father-daughter duo returned home from school, she went to her room and locked herself. An hour later the family members found her door to be locked on the inside, when they broke open into her room, only to find her hanging from the hook of a ceiling fan.
